EDC carry items need to be small enough to carry on your person or in a pocket book easily. They should be light weight, if at all possible at least duel use and geared to survival. Tactical pens meet all the above requirements plus! The one pictured above and those pictured below are both tactical pens and pen lights. The pen functions like you would expect of any ink pen, operates as a functional flash light and  serves as a self defense item that can pass through airport and government building security searches and scans and are perfectly legal to have even in those locations. The most complicated things about the tactical pen are how to use it in self defense and choosing which one best suits your needs. Some also include a window breaking tool on one end as well.

These specialized pens are much stronger than is a normal pen which would break easily and quickly in a self defense scenario and once you know how to properly use them they can be a very formidable weapon.
