Build and Cook in a Steam Pit

Build and Cook in a Steam Pit

Video grab: Canadian Bushcraft

Building a steam pit isn’t easy! I have watched them being done in person and totally understand why when able they use the same Large pit over and over!  This traditional method of cooking works extremely well and you can cook a whole meal in one pit. The local Polynesian community do an entire pig and taro root at the same time.

My personal dining experience from a steam pit was yummy and done in a backyard for a birthday barbeque. It would be a good way to do your cooking rather than over an open fire in a bug out scenario and can be as big or small as you want. However, I would recommend that unless you can get more than a single use from it that you go with a small one.

See it being created and used at the video below
