I confess to having been careless and allowing my cell phone battery to die on more than one occasion. I didn’t actually learn my lesson until it died in the middle of a storm which had taken down my household’s electricity. No outlet to plug it into and family and friends getting my voice mail during a bad storm caused much more concern for my wellbeing then it should have. My fault! But I was prepared enough to have assumed sooner or later that I would let my phone battery run out at a bad time, so I did have an auto charger and  I was able to recharge the cell using my vehicle and assure everyone I was indeed fine, just irresponsible at the time! This got me thinking (not only about being more responsible with the maintenance of my cell phone!) about other grid down scenarios.

Within a few days I purchased an inverter to allow me to use my auto battery to power other necessary devices when the power grid was down. The good folks at Survivopedia have taken this concept a step further and have put together the information on using auto batteries as a back up power source in a long term grid situation. From what to look for and how to use them to store back up energy. Check it out at the link below!
