The photo above wasn’t taken in a known war zone but in the streets of Ferguson Missouri USA August 17, 2015 during civil unrest over a civilian shooting by a police officer. Since then especially now in 2020 we have seen this scenario across the world and especially within the United States. This post isn’t about those issues, we try very hard to stay out of those issues not just because we don’t want to be censored, but because when you get down to the brass tacks I see our part in all of this as helping all of us to get through the ramifications. If we get involved in the causes directly then we lose our credibility and ability to speak to the solutions.

This post is about surviving in a civil unrest situation. There are those that put themselves in the middle of riots intentionally in order to make a political statement as has been the case with the recent riots and there are those who were simply caught up in them by chance, by location or by their jobs. Those are the people I wish to address in this post.

I do have personal experience in being caught in the wrong place at the wrong time during a couple of European incidents in the 1980s while I lived there. Unfortunately for me the situations came to me and were of an anti American sentiment and as many of you know I am an American. I was fortunate however that the level of violence seen during those demonstrations were no where near what they are experiencing today. I used our own prepper’s grey man practice to simply walk myself quietly out of the situation. Head down purposeful walk toward a safe building drawing no attention to myself what so ever. But in a violent situation it may take more then blending in and being unnoticed. For info on becoming the grey man continue at the link below from a previous post on our site.

Becoming Grey

None of us are safe from this kind of event. It can happen in any city in any country and to any one of us. As situations have shown us, the initial cause doesn’t even have to be in your city or your state for the violence to erupt around you. So what do you do if it’s your neighborhood? Your town? Your business? or during your vacation?

The links below will give you information on avoiding and surviving riots and civil unrest no matter where you are when they break out.
