If you bought a Berkey water filter online you are probably looking between 200 and 300 bucks! The high price is because they work so well and are trusted! Did you know you can make one yourself for literally half the price if not less?

Berkey filters are gravity filters that use cleanable micro-permeable ceramic filter elements. These filters are extremely effective, long-lasting and require no electricity. The only drawback is that they are expensive, and money saved is money that can be spent on other preps. You can save about $175-200 or more by making your own.

I actually made my own using these instructions. I didn’t purchase the Berkey filters but another brand of ceramic filter elements. I did purchase new 5 gallon buckets because I wanted the gamma seal and my total cost was under $60.00! See the instructions below to make yours even less expensive if you are able to get the buckets recycled!
