Building a retaining wall with a drainage system is one way to make your property more usable especially if you have sloped portions of land. Retaining walls prevent erosion and divert rainfall runoff. Doing so makes more of your land usable for gardening or as living space and increases property value over the long term. They also add value to the property simply because they define the landscape.

Making it a DIY project can save a ton of money that you can then spend on making use of that bit of land. There is just something about standing back and seeing the results of your own labor that brings a special sense of accomplishment.
