This is one of those articles where the author and I don’t agree. As an aggregated page we always try to present as many angles on every subject broached as possible. We realize that everyone has their own point of view and opinion and the more of those we can present you with, the better-informed choices and decisions you can make.

I also found myself stranded in a motor vehicle overnight. I can’t speak to the difference in temperature between Africa and here. But this was a rainy pacific northwest night. Like the author I also reached into my emergency pack and pulled out a single mylar emergency blanket. I had others but as I was alone, I only opened and used one. I found the blanket did its job! I can’t say it was a comfortable night as no night spent sleeping in a vehicle is! I did not have the option of turning on the heat as the reason I was stranded in the first place was car trouble. However, I was warm! So, I would vouch for the warmth of the blanket, the only issue I had was it is almost impossible to refold it back into the small square it came in to return it to the package! I determined for my purposes doing so was not worth the effort and folded it as small as I could easily do and shoved it right back into my emergency bag where it remains to this day.

So don’t assume by the title of the featured article that these handy little blankets are completely worthless even its author has other uses for them other than just warmth. Give it a read and make your own decision as to the value!

The mylar emergency blankets you love SUCK – but there’s hope
