As unemployment rises and the cost of food also increases, more and more people are finding themselves in this unfortunate position. You’ve paid the utilities and either the mortgage or rent and now your pockets are empty, leaving very little or nothing for groceries. Having a roof over your family’s head and keeping the heat or cooling on are appropriate priorities. But we all have to eat!

I have been told by those receiving food assistance find themselves in this position as well when that assistance either isn’t enough or runs out. One missed paycheck, a medical emergency, or terrible storm can put many more people in the position of having no grocery money. Or a natural disaster can put the markets out of business for some time.

If you have been wise your pantry is well stocked and you are ready to use it. However, many young people or those that have never been without food security before find this a daunting task. You may have only just begun your stockpile and find that the idea of rice and beans for the next 30 or more days unappetizing and unappealing!
