When the majority of think of a detention camp, we see the concentration camps of the holocaust. I had the opportunity to visit Dachau one of the better-known camps some years ago. Horrendous. There is no other way to describe that place. Evil still resides there; it has perforated the earth itself there. You can literally feel it, see it, and smell it. If you ever want to see a glimpse of hell, this is where you should visit. That it still stands and is I hope, enough of a reminder to ensure that a place like that is never allowed to exist again.

But many of us seem to have forgotten that detention camps were used as recently in world history as 1981-1983 with the last of the prisoners not released until 1986 in Poland, during the period of martial law. Although not the death camps of World War I, they were not the internment camps of the 1940s either and hundreds were killed. Then of course we all know of the internment camps used to “coral” anyone of Asian heritage in fear they were in collaboration with the Japanese during World War II. None of which were happy or pleasant places to be!  Those interned lost everything they had to leave behind and it changed the course of their personal histories and of many Asian Americans forever.

Is it any wonder people fear the mere idea of any government operated camp including for many folks FEMA camps, which are supposed to be helpful?

As preppers most of us intend to avoid camps of any kind other than those we set up ourselves as communities struggling to survive a crisis scenario. If we are successful there will be no need for us to turn to the promised and oft not delivered help from any outside organization. However, should you find yourself in a camp for any reason and want to leave and are not allowed to… you know you are in trouble. Today’s featured article gives tips and advice for removing yourself from such a camp. See it linked below
