Did anyone else do this as a child? I vividly remember picking wild berries in open fields and along roadsides for my grandmother’s preserves as a child. I know I am aging myself by saying that! As this was back when it wasn’t a legal issue to do so. When I was growing up it was a common practice and if the land was owned by someone who wanted to use the berries themselves they simply spread the word by word of mouth and everyone respected those requests. Doing harm via vandalism or roaming further or closer to the personal property of the owner wasn’t something done!

Before you forage for wild berries or any plant for that matter make sure you are respecting the property rights of others and ask first. Once you have the ok, or if in a SHTF scenario where there may not be anyone to give or deny permission, having the knowledge to know where and how to find these precious berries will be greatly appreciated. It could mean the difference between life and death for those starving.

For me it still brings back wonderful memories of childhood, a great family project from finding, picking and preserving them to eating the rewards! See the featured link below for the info!
