(2 links) I was surprised to learn how many people were not aware that the luffa sponge was actually a plant! Not only is it a plant but an edible one. They grow much like vine squash and can be cooked and eaten the same way. This makes it a multi use plant and I do love the multi use items! The plant itself is sensitive to cold so it would be one you would want to try indoors or in a greenhouse if you’re not in a consistently warm climate. How much fun could it be to make your own luffas from your left over harvest!? See how easy it is to grow, cook and/or make your luffa sponges at the featured link from Sassy Plants below.
