How To Build a PVC Pipe Survival Cache

This PVC pipe survival cache is the brain child of John from Ohio and submitted to SHTF & Prepping Central. He created his thinking it was a good safety measure for the possibility of a SHTF event where he may have to go without his gear or if his gear were to be compromised as well as a bit of a time capsule.

Having a cache in route to your bug out location can be helpful even if you are able to get to your bug out bag and hang on to it during the initial emergency as you can only carry so much! Having a bit of a back up along the way is a wise move. If you are really fortunate and don’t need those supplies they could make your travels easier in barter for other goods you weren’t able to take with you and couldn’t be stored in your cache.

Having a cache won’t do you any good if you can’t hide it well and if the items inside are destroyed by the elements. This a really good idea for making a water proof and long lasting capsule for your extra supplies.  Because of the bit of flexibility in PCV it can survive freezing temperatures and rain. But make sure that you bury it deeply enough that it won’t come to the surface through natural soil erosion.

Choosing a location is also important, insuring that you can not only find it when you need it but that it remains hidden until you dig it up.  You don’t your cache identifiable by other travelers scavenging for supplies nor to be unable to locate it yourself when and if the time comes.  Trees can be cut down or blown down by bad storms and man made markers can and often are moved or removed which would make it very difficult to locate if you have used such an item as a marker. It is also possible if the disaster that has you on the move has disabled satellite transmissions or electronics that even if you still have your GPS it may not work. So try to choose an area that you are a bit familiar with and has natural markers that aren’t easily moved or that you yourself have access to if manmade to prevent their movement or destruction.

Some items that can be stored in a PVC cache are MRE‘s, water purification tabs, fire starters, a compass, a knife and those kinds of long lasting supplies.
