On television or in real time most of us have seen markings on buildings and walls after a disaster. If you are in the United States FEMA markings may be more familiar. See them and their meanings here >>>FEMA Search and Rescue Markings-Why You Should Know What They Mean  However if the international community is involved or if you are outside the United States at the time disaster strikes you should know the international search and rescue markings.

This is important for a couple of reasons: 1st if you are looking for assistance or shelter after a crisis scenario, these markings can tell you if the building is safe and how long ago it was searched. 2nd  If you are looking to avoid contact with looters or even the searchers knowing how to mark your own shelter can keep others out.

Learn the FEMA markings linked above and the International ones linked below to insure you always have the right information at hand if needed.
