What a Grid Down Scenario Looks Like After 3 Months

When we look at a location off grid for a length of time, we usually talk about 3rd world countries that have never had power or live with daily power interruptions. This doesn’t give us a clear view. They are dealing with off the grid issues, but not caused by a disaster nor in places where prior the people lived and relied on the power grid for everyday life.

If a grid down scenario should slam you in the western world it won’t look the same as in those locations where it has always been unreliable. Yes we can learn from their struggles with daily life. But we can’t actually “feel” the situation. Puerto Rico is a different story their entire infrastructure was devastated by hurricanes. Then they struggled with the damage, loss of life, loss of property, lack of supplies, and inadequate medical care of a natural disaster followed by months of a grid down scenario.

Their situation is more closely relatable to what it might be like if the grid went down across the country. Continents are truthfully just really big islands after all. Take a look what it was like living in Puerto Rico after 3 months when millions were still without power, without clean water, without supplies, and without adequate medical care.
