What You Need to Know about Ebola

Just the word Ebola strikes fear. A deadly communicable illness with no cure, of course the public is afraid. The more I read about the virus itself the more terrifying it is, the pictures of those infected are horrific.

However, the more I read about how it is spread the less afraid I am and the better able to prepare to keep myself and my family from becoming ill. Knowledge of the illness and how it spreads can sate some of the fear and help you to prepare to keep yourself and family from becoming infected.

It is an excellent reminder that we do need to be concerned with the spread of illness after a SHTF event. Being prepared for any outbreak is wise for any prepper in any part of the world. Lack of appropriate medical care, hygiene, and properly prepared foods will be a breeding ground for both the rare and  common viruses. Every group should have a quarantine period prior to allowing a new member in close quarters with you for both security and wellness issues and a plan in place to safely care for a family or group member who could become ill or was injured during or after the event. Every medical kit should contain both gloves and masks and those caring for the ill should be especially cautious.
