One aspect of homesteading that tends to be a bit romanticized are the chores that come with it! The ideal vision is setting on the big old front porch in a old rocker sipping home squeezed lemonade while watching the sun set. This image in the mind can become a daily fact of life. But there are a whole lot of chores to be done before that setting sun!

Homemaking chores exist whether you live the high powered jet set life or the simple farm life.  Many things have changed in the method of keeping house in just the past 20 years! Most modern conveniences are time savers for sure. But most of them also cost a bit more to do than they used to. Even if you are in the small percentage that can hire someone else to do them!

Our featured blog in this post is about some homemaking skills that could be less costly and more cost efficient if we returned to the old ways of doing them. I personally pick and choose which are really worth the savings to do the old way and which I gladly pay a bit more to do with today’s appliances. I would recommend you do the same. Just because the actual dollar amount is lower doesn’t always make it more cost effective. Your time and effort are indeed of value. But like me you may also find there can be a sense of peace and satisfaction obtained by using the vintage methods.
