Injuries are going to happen during a SHTF event, that is just a given. They will continue to happen after the event as well. What  could also be factual is that you will be the first and in a worst case scenario the only responder. If the injury is or includes a broken bone or dislocated joint, this information will be invaluable.

Never try to set a bone or relocate a joint on your own if medical assistance is available. There can be a number of complications that arise from nerve damage to bone infections that can occur.  If professional medical care is available always make use of their expertize. This is especially true if the victim is a small child. If the bone is not specially set in a small child it can not only cause limitation of movement like in an adult but cause bone overgrowth as the child’s body tries to heal itself. This overgrowth can cause limbs to grow at different rates causing one leg to be shorter than the other etc.. There really is no such thing as a simple medical procedure. Even the smallest of injuries if not properly treated can lead to a much worse scenario arising.

However, if medical care is not readily available you may have to prepare to evacuate the patient yourself or in a long term SHTF event treat the patient yourself. That is the situation this information is intended for.
