Some States to Require a Permit to Trade Seeds

It appears another simple homesteading, prepping, and gardening common practice has found its way into the law maker’s crosshairs. Seed libraries, friends, neighbors and even relatives may soon and are already in some states required to have a permit to gift seeds to others! I used to trade seeds, seedlings and clippings with friends and family on a regular basis as we all had gardens in the past. Now if my mom has a plant that I admire and envy she may have to gain a permit in order to share it with me! I do understand and respect the seed selling laws that ensure that we know what we are getting upon purchase especially as it could be months down the road before we know for sure based upon the seed’s viability and harvest. But to require a permit to give a neighbor your extra seeds? Or to prevent the poor from growing their own from the gifts of others? Read more about these permit laws by continuing at the link below
