Survival Gear – The Serape or Woobie

When I hear some one speak of a serape the first thing I think of is the brightly colored Mexican blanket type old fashion outerwear. Although the combination of blanket and jacket is immediately recognized as a good idea for survival wear.

  • Using your blanket as a jacket gives you one less item to carry
  • They are one size fits all so they would fit over any jacket you are already wearing for added warmth and ease of carry
  • The sides remain open, making it easy to reach a side arm, knife or any other gear that you might have on your belt or on a molle combat belt

However the traditional material used isn’t water proof and with those bright colors you could be seen a mile away! But Hill People mountain gear have come up with an awesome serape that does all the above and more! Very much like the military poncho liner often called a woobie which is widely used for all the same reasons as a serape. Check it out and its uses at the featured link below
