Our Children learn by watching us but don’t always understand any more than this is how mom or dad always did it. Indeed, that it the first step to teaching your children to prepare.

However, they must be taught from the time they have any amount of independence to protect themselves from some things. It’s imperative that your children know the basics of survival from the moment they can understand. Like leaving the house if there is a fire and not to hide in that scenario, or if they hear gun shots to hide and not to make their presence known unless called to by the appropriate people and that these are very different situations.

You don’t want to frighten them or cause them to be afraid of the world, just to be safe, A recent example of that type of parental teaching is the sad yet miraculous story of 7 year old Sailor Gutzer who used the skills learned from her father to get help after a plane crash. See her story here:

Girl who lived through plane crash used survival skills taught by her dad

We sincerely hope as we know you all do, that none of our children ever need to use those skills. I for one though find peace of mind in the knowledge that my children and grandchildren know what to do in most of the scenarios they could face.
