Tidal Wave Survival

My first question when researching this is what exactly is a tidal wave? What creates a wave of this magnitude? Are tidal waves and tsunamis the same thing?

What I learned is that they are very much like watery land slides with out the weight of the earth combined with the fluidity of water keeping the motion going until it dissipates naturally out to sea or collides with the land. Tsunami‘s are very similar only they begin on land with an earthquake either on land above or below the water while the tidal wave is literally caused by the changing and shifting of the tides. They can reach 100 feet high and move at the rate of 200 miles an hour. An extremely dangerous phenomenon if you happen to be in the path. They can travel an amazing length in land.

There really isn’t a set way of surviving this type of natural disaster if your in the middle of it. That seems to be a matter of the graces. Those that have been tossed about and nearly drown by them have said there was nothing they could of done to make it easier nor did do anything in particular to survive. Avoidance is the key to surviving this disaster. Learning what to look for and preparing a plan of evacuation is your best chance of getting out alive.
