Regardless of your environment, you can find plants that it will provide you with nourishment in a survival situation. But you must know what to look for and know where to look for it. This  includes non-traditional growing seasons! Some plants are entirely edible from the fruit to the roots. Roots can be found year round even if you have to dig through the snow to find them!

You don’t have to live in a rural area to forage! Most cities have inadvertently added to your urban foraging prospects with decorative planters and by adding the trees that line your city streets. Some cities have intentionally  provided foraging locations for their citizens by planting food forests and urban public food gardens. Check out if you have a food forest near you at this link.. The New Urban Garden-Food Forests The number of these public gardens are increasing as more cities are adding them to their landscaping.
