The best way to survive a confrontation of the violent sort is of course to avoid it in the first place. However, that may not always be possible.

You don’t have to start it, be involved in it, be expecting it, or even know why it is happening to end up in the middle of it. We aren’t talking just about public violence either. It can happen in the sanctity of your own home, neighborhood, school, community, or even workplace. Across the USA in the last years there have been several violent outbursts in communities the form of riots. There isn’t a country or location that is exempt.

The first step may not necessarily identify what is the most likely violent danger to you and yours, but rather how you and those around you are most likely to react to it. From there you can make a plan as to how you and those around you should react to the situation. The reactions of those around you will make an enormous difference to how the scenario unfolds and what your reaction to it should be.
