When I hear about desert survival I think of deserts like the one pictured above in southern Africa. I have ashamedly actually driven through desert terrain is both Arizona and Nevada in the United States and never even thought about desert survival! Mother Nature nor the forces that be that control when your perfectly fine vehicle will suddenly become a hunk of junk on the side of the road refusing to run care if I am not prepared.

A town or city 20 miles away from you when you are on foot may as well be hundreds when trekking through the desert. Mother Nature doesn’t care if you are on vacation and didn’t plan on becoming stranded. If you live in a hot dry climate all the time you may  be better prepared than is the tourist. But many times you have gone that route so many times you can forget how dangerous it could be if you were to become stranded. Or if during a SHTF event find yourself bugging out in desert terrain.
