 Finding Water Along the Way

Bugging out or trying to get home during a crisis could mean hiking on foot, or by any means of travel still available. Especially if you’re on your own water will be an important supply. The majority of us can’t carry the recommended amount of water necessary to make a 3-4 day trek alone.

There is a rather forgotten source of water you could come across along the way if you know what to look for and if you have the key for opening it! Pictured above is actually an outdoor water faucet on a commercial building. Often found on fuel stations, wayside stops, warehouses, and car dealerships. Any where the business might need outdoor water. With the cost of water in most locations these days these businesses don’t intend to give it away and to use the spigot you need a Sillcock key. These key’s come in 4 different sizes and I would recommend particularly if you will be traveling through and urban area that you get the key that includes all 4 sizes. I can’t imagine anything more frustrating that finding a safe water source and being unable to get at it because you have the wrong size key! To see how they work watch the video below.

To locate a key for your GHB or BOB check out a variety of sillcock keys HERE

If you like the idea shown in the video for the snap on hose you can see one of those HERE
