The Dallas 911 system was hacked in April 2017. Sounding alarms and tying up phone lines all over the city. You may think it was a pretty crappy thing to do but it doesn’t affect you. You don’t live in Dallas or you do but didn’t require emergency services that particular night. But then there was another outage more in December 2018 when Century Link had it’s technical issues and again in January 2019 in Polk County Missouri due to a fiber cable being damaged.

These are older instances but it should cause you pause. If a hacker can effectively shut down a city’s emergency system or a technical outage or damage can, what could a group of hackers or an enemy backed governmental hacking do now years later? First responders don’t know what is a true emergency and what is part of the hoax. If you’re the one bleeding on the pavement after an auto accident, or you’re the one who is having a heart attack or even if you’re in the mall that is being shot up, you want those folks to come and to come now!

If the emergency system can be hacked successfully what about your water system? The power grid? How will you know if the sirens go off in your area if the emergency is real?

Take a look at what happened in Dallas due to hackers back in 2017, and other parts of the country due to technology outages and then have a talk with your family or group and make an alternative plan for if this should happen locally whether due to hacking or technical issues.
