Traps of any kind will be needed in a long term SHTF event. No wasting ammo and after setting the trap you are free to go about other chores that will have to be done until the trap has done it’s job and you have captured prey.

There are kill traps, however I really prefer the box trap because they are no kill traps. That means that setting them up could be the job of someone in your group who is disabled or even a child without concerns of them harming themselves. It’s safer if the family pet should wander in inadvertently or if a child or group member should accidently set it off on themselves. They also  give you some options with your catch. If your trying to be more self sufficient and rather than continue trapping which of course draws attention to your group presence in the area and could be easy pickings for someone to help themselves to your catch. If the animal in the trap is alive and unharmed you have the option to wait to butcher if need be or with catches like rabbits in particular you would have the option to begin a herd of rabbits breeding in your own camp/home/bug out location. This could insure your group always had fresh meat.
