I tried this for the American Independence day celebration when my neighborhood began to sound like a firing range and it worked! Fireworks and firecrackers are still legal in many smaller cities and towns across the country. So now I purchased one in anticipation of a repeat on News Years Eve.

Not only do we have to take care that our children are not injured while these devices are in use but we need to understand our pets can suffer too! If you know your dog or even cat likes to attack what is loud and exciting them it is of course best to keep them indoors during this season. There have been reports of many dogs injured mouths and paws by trying to “get” the noisy perceived threat. If your pet however becomes nervous and terrified by the booms and bangs it is a terrifying time for them! You can help make this trauma less for your pet using a purchased or homemade thundershirt.

The thundershirt is designed to hug your pet in a manner that feels secure and safe. Like swaddling an infant. They can assist in other situations that make your pet anxious as well, like car rides, or vet visits. You can purchase one based on your pet’s size >>  HERE .

But you may want to make your own or preview how your pet responds to it before making the purchase. The instructions below show you how to DIY a thundershirt for your pet from an ace bandage!
