When I was a kid, I recall my grandmother telling me that there were things worse than death. I let it go in one ear and out the other because I was a child! As children unless we are traumatized by events in our lives we think we are invincible and a lifetime of 60 or more years seems like immortality. Death and dying are truly out of our realm of reality. My grandmother was a nurse. Now that I am older and she has been gone for more than 40 years, I remember her words and understand the wisdom they contained.

I have watched people struggle with unthinkable side effects and traumas from illnesses, injuries, and life conditions to the point that they welcomed death. I am definitely not ready to depart this life, but I am no longer so sure that there aren’t things worse than death. In a horrible situation, how far would you go to survive?

Prepperzine discusses this with examples of people who were able to and did unthinkable things to survive. See a brief synopsis of their stories at the featured link below
