Medical supplies are an excellent barter item. First in a time of disaster you can’t have too many medical supplies. For the most part medical supplies don’t expire or go bad over a length of time and right now in normal times they are relatively inexpensive to obtain.

If you think a disaster in another part of your country doesn’t affect your access to medicines and supplies, you are sadly mistaken. In the case of 9/11, I can personally attest to the fact that even though the disaster occurred on the east coast we here on the west coast suffered the lack of certain medications and medical supplies as a result.

Naturally all the USA’s medical resources were channeled to the east coast in an effort to assist. I suffered a relatively serious injury shortly after that crisis event and my doctors had to contact the Canadian medical community to purchase the needed medication for treatment. I am forever grateful for the cooperation and assistance from our Canadian neighbors.

Just a reminder that if the SHTF event is one near or far, medical supplies will always be in demand. To see which ones Dr. Alton of Doom and Bloom recommends for stockpile, see the link below
