I love a Swedish torch! But as I have admitted before I haven’t ever actually built one myself. I will now!

If you are a camper for fun or because of an overnight hike or hunting trip you know how unpleasant it can be if the fire goes out during the night. It is always colder, and darker and takes longer than I thought it would. Now I will be able to start the fire once and it will burn all night without constant tending. I was also always a bit concerned that the fire could not only go out during the night but perhaps an ember or bit of the fire roll out of the pit (if built up large enough to burn awhile) and burning something unintended. With the Swedish torch I think if you were to put one of these in a pit it could burn safely for hours.
