It’s always uplifting to hear of people who beat the odds and survived what could be seen as un-survivable. It’s a tribute to the human spirit and ability to adapt to whatever situation they find themselves in.

I am always amazed when even these stories of survivors and the sad stories from the families of those who didn’t survive don’t inspire more people to prepare for automobile accidents. I am an advocate of carrying a smaller “accident bag” in the interior of your car, not to replace your get home bag in the trunk but to add to your security should you be trapped in your vehicle.

In Angela Hernandez’s story linked below in her own words featured by CNN she had done a bit of preparing. She had the multi-tool that freed her from the sinking car, and she did have water in the vehicle, But she was unable to get to it when she needed it. Which is why I keep my accident bag on the back of the passenger seat insuring it is reachable by the driver after the vehicle comes to rest in the majority of scenarios where the driver must or can’t evacuate the vehicle.

See her story at the link below and the multi-tool she used to escape the vehicle below that.
