Hardtack has been a part of a soldier’s field rations since the civil war! It keeps an incredibly long time when properly dried. Most often because of its hard cracker taste and texture used as a dumpling substitute with stews and soups. But it can also be eaten plain. Hardtack provides much needed carbohydrates and calories needed to create the energy to help keep you going under difficult conditions.
