For our purposes here, we are going to assume there has been a total collapse of society as we know it. Whether it be a temporary situation or a long term one we are suddenly without law enforcement, the national guard and the army are all either gone or busy elsewhere and not available to come to our aid.

This leaves us to fend for ourselves and if we are wise we will gather up into as large a group as possible. There is safety in numbers, more hands to work toward surviving, it’s easier to do shifts for defense and divided work loads, a larger variety of skill sets, and more ideas to choose from for the end goal of surviving.

But to make a group work the first thing that needs to be done is everyone involved needs to join together. This is task that should be begun now in normal times. Getting to know your neighbors and finding common ground now will make it more likely that a knock at the door during a crisis will be answered by a friend or at least an acquaintance rather than by a leery, frightened, rifle toting stranger!

Once you have some knowledge of your neighbors you need to look at self defense in a more tactical manner. To start changing your method of thinking you can begin by reading our previous posting on defensive tactics  here >>Defensive Tactics When the SHTF

Then take a look at your neighborhood tactically. Which street and or series of homes would be best for the group to gather at? Who is with you for sure and who may not be at all? Where would attack be most likely to come from etc.. To assist you with those types of choices we recommend you begin reading here >>

Thinking About your Neighborhood from a Tactical Perspective

Now that you know the neighbors at least by face, have adjusted your thinking to a tactical methodology and  have an idea of the pros and cons of the area the next step is to look at actual defense tactics that could work in your specific area or give you ideas for those that would. See the thoughts of “M.M.C. & D.K.” on the subject in the survival blog posted here >>
