Things to Look for at Every Yard/Garage Sale

Graphic from hope for the sold

Prepping can get expensive. The adage of 1 is none and 2 is 1 can get costly. But it doesn’t have to be! Buying second hand these days doesn’t even necessarily mean used anymore. Stores often donate their brand new goods to thrift stores or church sales for charity. Gently used items can be even a better bargain. Many things that are gold to preppers are seen as outdated or old fashion to the younger non prepping generation and they can be found still in the package or used once at many a garage or yard sale. Even better get some practice with your trading skills by negotiating with the proprietors at private sales. Develop a keen eye for minor flaws that can save you big bucks at thrift stores.

Survival mom gives you her list of 21 items that you should always be on the look out for at these bargain bonanzas see that at the link below and what we here at The Prepared Page have added for your consideration below as well!

21 Things to Look For Every Time You Go To a Yard Sale or Thrift Store

  • Undamaged thermos containers – can be used for thermos cooking and keeping items warm while on the move
  • Tarps of all sizes
  • Work gloves – easily lost during stressful situations but much needed in a crisis having several extra pair is wise
  • pallets – often can be obtained for free and can be used for so many things
  • Hoses and PVC pipes – great for making your own irrigation systems so damage doesn’t matter and gets you a lower price
  • Auto maintenance  items – you may need several of each item if bugging out long distance and if the crisis is on going to keep your vehicle going
  • solar lights of all kinds – they can be revamped into single larger panels for power or replacement parts for those you already have
  • Oil lamps
  • An undamaged ice chest or two
  • spare parts for any propane, gas powered, or battery operated devices you have

Start with the lowest price you think they will take and then work your way up to the highest price you might be willing to pay. But never get so caught up in the fun of the bartering that you pay more than the item is worth or that you can get elsewhere. Throwing several small items in with the perhaps larger item that is over priced can sometimes help you get an all for………. price. Enjoy the hunt and happy bargaining!
