I have pets that would take offense at being called a pet. They are family and they know it. I have always considered them in my disaster plans and in most aspects of prepping. Each has his or her own bug out bag and supplies. I can’t imagine evacuating without them.

I am not naïve enough to think that there couldn’t be hitches with those plans. Two things come immediately to mind. One is that they are no matter how much we love them, animals and will react to a dangerous frightening scenario like animals. They may hide or run away making it difficult to locate them when it’s time to get out of dodge. Secondly if for any reason our plan goes completely array, we could end up in an evacuation center/shelter and too often they don’t allow pets.

As either of those glitch scenarios are out of my hands, all I or anyone can do is plan ahead for them and hope that we are able to prevent those issues or to be able to reunite with our furry family when things become calmer. The featured article linked below from The Prepper Journal does speak to those issues and many more.
