We very recently featured an article regarding keeping your home spider free. A member brought up another pest we don’t want in our homes, roaches!

I have always been very fortunate to never have lived in a home with an infestation. I did live in a military housing area that had serious roach issues. Contrary to what immediately comes to mind some of the homes that I saw that were infested were immaculately kept. Roaches migrate from one location to the next, if you have a neighbor that has roaches, sooner or later they will attempt to encroach upon your territory.

Roaches need two things to survive your environment, food and water. They can go a month without food but only a week without water. So once you have gotten rid of them, keep them away by denying them these necessities in your home! At least until your entire neighborhood and area is clear of them. No leaky faucets or sweating pipes, when you mop don’t leave water up against the walls etc… Clean up all crumbs and spills immediately and rinse dirty dishes right after using. Take out trash regularly and store it until taken off the property away from your home.

What I did to prevent the migration was an old remedy I had heard of… I put used coffee grounds around the outside foundation of the home about an inch thick. Maybe I was just lucky or really good at denying their need for food and water, But I never saw a single roach. The coffee ground theory also tested successfully for getting rid of them among the remedies tested in the featured article. So see which home remedies worked and which didn’t at the link
